The Hidden Costs of Moving
If you’re planning on moving sometime soon, it’s worth taking a look at the cost of it all. We don’t mean paying more for rent; there are actually several hidden fees you should watch out for. Here are some things to consider when you are moving. Make sure that you’ve saved some money up for these!
Security Deposit
Upon move in, most land lords require a security deposit to cover any potential damage to their property. Even if you’ve been an ideal tenant, you still can’t guarantee that you’ll get your entire security deposit back. Wear and tear happens, and it’s up to the landlord to decide whether you get your full deposit back or not.
If you have accidentally caused any damage or have any blu tack marks or pin marks in the wall, you could be at risk of getting a reduction in your deposit.
Packing supplies
If you are packing yourself, you might need to pay a little bit extra for packing supplies. You’ll need to pay for cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, and other materials to pack with. These aren’t too expensive, but it does add up, especially if you have many things to pack.
Moving companies and extra fees
Moving companies can be costly, and it’s worth paying for one that has plenty of inclusions. If you have heavy objects, fragile objects, or are moving into or out of somewhere with lots of stairs and no lift, you might need to pay an extra fee. However, some moving companies do cover these things with their rates. It’s worth taking some time to find the perfect moving company that includes everything that you need.
Renters insurance
You also need to pay for insurance in case anything goes wrong during the move or any of your objects break. This can be quite pricey, so be sure to look for an insurance policy that will cover it!
Be sure to bear these hidden costs in mind when you’re moving house, and save some money for the possibility of extra fees!
