As Johnston County experiences significant population growth, the acquisition of land for a new administrative site highlights the county's efforts to accommodate its expanding needs.
The County of Johnston purchased approximately 50 acres of land off of U.S. Highway 70 Business East for $2 million.
The land was bought after completing due diligence earlier this year and has a current market value of $178,650.
The former owners of the site are John and Kyle Hughes.
The county paid John Hughes $5,000 for the option to evaluate the land and had until September to exercise the option to purchase.
Johnston County's population has grown by 8.7% (18,787 people) between April 1, 2020, and July 1, 2022, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates.
The purchase of land for a new administrative site in Johnston County reflects the county's proactive approach to accommodating its growing population and expanding needs.
