Governor Roy Cooper has approved $8.5 million in grants to fund 19 local parks and recreation projects across the state, emphasizing the importance of outdoor spaces for community well-being.
This funding will enable towns and counties to develop and renovate public parks and recreation areas, enhancing the quality of life for residents and boosting local economies through increased tourism.

development, and renovation projects.
The maximum grant awarded to a single project is $500,000, and
awardees must match funds dollar-for-dollar.
RDU's Person County received a $360,000 grant
This year, the Authority considered 52 grant applications totaling
over $21 million.
The grants aim to create and expand park facilities, supporting North
Carolina's reputation as the "Great Trails State."
The Parks and Recreation Trust Fund has been instrumental in helping local governments build new parks and improve facilities since 1995. These investments promote conservation, outdoor recreation, and education about nature and the outdoors.
