This project is significant as it allows North Carolina to leverage its offshore wind potential and manufacturing presence to support the responsible development of offshore wind in the U.S. It presents an opportunity for the state to attract substantial economic investments and create family-sustaining jobs.
The project is a partnership between the National Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium (NOWRDC), the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware.
NREL recently developed a national Supply Chain Roadmap, providing insights into gaps that could impact the entire offshore wind industry.
The new study will focus on how SMART-POWER states can fill these gaps and realize local benefits.
Final results and a full report will be released in early.
North Carolina's participation in the offshore wind workforce assessment and supply chain project presents a unique opportunity for the state to tap into the growing offshore wind industry. By leveraging its resources and location, North Carolina can attract significant investments and create sustainable jobs while contributing to the responsible development of renewable energy.
